Physical Needs:
This includes making sure the campers are:

1. Eating properly, drinking enough water
   - Arrange with waitress/kitchen staff how you will get special foods for campers with dietary restrictions
2. Sleeping well
   - Remaining with the bunk until majority are sleeping, before the OD comes in
3. Dressed for the weather (sweater/sunscreen/rain boots) and wearing proper footwear for each activity
4. Behaving in a safe manner
5. Any medical needs:
   1. Campers on medication are going to the nurse to take it
   2. A camper who isn’t feeling well reports to the nurse
   3. Following the health center protocol — not bringing campers to the nurse for small cuts or other minor incidents to ensure the nurse has the time and energy for more severe incidents.

Emotional Needs:

1. Treating each camper with love and respect
2. Looking out for a camper who may feel sad or missing home
3. Looking out for campers who may be struggling socially
4. Reaching out to head staff for help with any camper/bunk situation that is too much to deal with alone

This is after using the tactics taught in the staff training. You are capable of affecting great change among campers; you may surprise yourself with the influence you have.

1. Maintaining a personal standard in אידישקייט and חסידישקייט as a דוגמא חיה in thought, speech, action, and dress. Recognizing that the campers all want to be like you and therefore make sure your behavior is always fitting for the campers to imitate.

2. Infusing energy, giving compliments, and encouraging campers in the activities
3. Taking advantage of opportunities that arise to discuss concepts and farbreng with campers, bearing in mind that these conversations may stick with them forever

Responsibility:

1. Ensure that your radio is charged nightly so it is available for use the next day
2. Respond on the radio when you hear your name called
3. Take responsibility for camp property in your care (radios, MP3s, speakers, etc.) to ensure it is used properly and not broken

4. Go to sleep at a reasonable hour each night to ensure you have sufficient energy the next day for your campers

5. Follow camp phone protocol, specifically ensuring that phones are not out during camp hours at all

Discipline:

1. Prioritizing your relationship with your campers and seeking out positive interactions with them to maximize the effectiveness of any discipline that might become necessary
2. Stopping inappropriate behavior if you see it
   i. Remember that you are an authority figure to the campers and you have the ability to influence them
3. Making sure to report any necessary incidents to the relevant parties
   i. This step is necessary only once you have done your part — step into your role!

Sometimes there are issues that cannot be resolved in camp. We can offer support but sometimes, if an issue isn’t resolved, it’s because it can’t be, and we must do our best to love the campers and be there for them.
